[Al Cost] 15% Freight Rate Cut to Reduce Costs for Xinjiang Aluminum Smelters

The 15% freight rate cut for shipping aluminum ingot out of Xinjiang, effective June 12, will reduce cash costs for local smelters, Shanghai Metals Market understands.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 25 (SMM) – The 15% freight rate cut for shipping aluminum ingot out of Xinjiang, effective June 12, will reduce cash costs for local smelters, Shanghai Metals Market understands.

The preferential rate will save 75 yuan per tonne on containerized shipments and 96.3 yuan per tonne on bulk rail shipments, SMM’s research team concludes.

Aluminum smelters in Xinjiang enjoy relatively low production costs thanks to cheap and rich coal resources there.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
